Ford recalls Bronco and Maverick over loss of drive power from low battery
Ford is recalling 456,565 of its Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles. In the NHTSA report, the company said the body and power train control modules may fail to detect a change in the 12-volt battery. When a vehicle has an undetected low battery charge, it can result in a loss of hazard lights or cause a loss of drive power. As a result, it will increase the risk of a crash.
Drivers with the affected vehicles can bring their cars to the dealer where they will recalibrate the body control module and power train control module. This service will be completed for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by May 13. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S24.
Recalled vehicles:
- 2021-2024 Bronco Sport
- 2022-2023 Maverick
Toyota recalls Prius for rear door defect
Toyota is recalling about 55,000 of its 2023-2024 Prius and Prius HEV hybrid electric vehicles in the U.S. because water may enter and short-circuit rear door latches causing them to possibly open when moving or in a crash. The doors could open if the compact car's rear doors are not locked. Unexpected door openings, especially when the car is in motion or in a crash could increase the risk of injury to occupants, Toyota said in a recall notice.
Until that remedy is available, vehicle owners in the U.S. and Canada should make sure to activate the feature that automatically locks the doors when shifting from "park" to help prevent the door opening if a short circuit occurs, Toyota said.
Toyota dealers will replace the right and left rear door opener switches with improved ones, free of charge, the company said. Customers will be notified about this issue through the mail by early June.

Toyota recalling Lexus for airbag deployment failure
Toyota is recalling 1,000 of its Lexus LS 500 and LS 500h vehicles. The Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor in the front passenger seat may not operate as designed and can affect airbag deployment. This malfunction can result in a noncompliance with safety requirements in some areas like North America and Asia. The automaker warns that this defect can increase the risk of an injury to an individual in the front passenger seat in a crash, Toyota said.
Lexus drivers can bring their recalled vehicles to the dealer where an inspection will be conducted on the front passenger seat. To repair the issue, for free mechanics will adjust a stopper and seat frame assembly near the sensor and recalibrate the system. Owners will be notified by mail in early June.
For additional information, Lexus customer support is available by calling the Lexus Brand Engagement Center (1-800-225-3987) for Lexus vehicles.

Tesla recalls Cybertruck over acceleration from trapped gas pedal
Tesla is recalling 3,878 of its 2024 Cybertruck vehicles. In the NHTSA report, the automaker said the gas pedal pad may dislodge and cause the pedal to become trapped by the interior trim. When a gas pedal is trapped it can cause the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally. This will increase the risk of a crash.
To resolve the issue, Tesla service will replace or repair the gas pedal assembly for free. Notification letters are expected to be mailed out in June. No specific date was given for when the letters will be distributed. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-24-33-003.

Ford recalls Bronco Sport part
Ford is recalling of its 1,209 Ford Bronco Sport Hood Scoops with part number VM1PZ-16C630-A, that were sold as accessory parts for 2021-2024 Bronco Sport vehicles. The automobile company said the hood scoop may detach from the vehicle. If a hood scoop detaches while driving it can damage the windshield or become a road hazard which will increase the risk of a crash, NHTSA said.
Ford will provide a refund for the Sport Hood Scoops. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S25.
